The Elmton and Creswell Village Company was formed in March 2001 to provide a vehicle for community regeneration of the villages. It was established at the request of the Village Forum, which represents some 60 different organisations working in the villages.
The board consists of:
· local community directors – all volunteers with a range of skills and expertise
· institutional directors, able to provide additional experience
· specialist advisors for key projects such as Derbyshire County Council’s Community Economic development team worker and Village Companies Project’s Business Development Advisor.
The first project of the Village Company was to acquire the vacated National Westminster Bank building and renovate this to provide a resource centre to begin to meet some essential identified needs of the community. The Resource Point is now in operation and is functioning as a highly active service for the villages.
The Village Company is now in the process of finding suitable premises for provision of other identified needs.
